About the role
- Senior Backend Engineer developing scalable backend systems for Taster, a foodtech startup. Collaborating on robust architecture and integrating AI-powered capabilities into the platform.
Responsibilities
- Own complex backend features end-to-end, from design to deployment and iteration
- Collaborate closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and operations teams
- Design and build scalable APIs and services powering customer-facing and internal tools
- Ensure reliability and performance of critical systems (ordering, payments, operations)
- Design robust, scalable architectures on Google Cloud Platform
- Improve system reliability, observability, and performance
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
- Lead technical discussions and contribute to architecture decisions and best practices
- Evaluate when to leverage LLMs vs traditional coding approaches depending on reliability, performance, cost, and maintainability
- Mentor other engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in backend development
- Strong experience with Python (FastAPI or similar frameworks)
- Experience designing scalable distributed systems
- Solid experience with GCP (or similar cloud platforms)
- Strong understanding of APIs, databases, and asynchronous systems
- Experience with monitoring, performance optimization, and system reliability
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures is a plus
- Experience coding with LLM-assisted tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot)
- Interest in integrating AI into backend systems and workflows
- Fluent in English
- Fluent in French
