About the role
- Sports Reporter/Producer/Presenter responsible for coordinating and presenting sports news coverage. Engaging in research and live reporting of sports events and stories.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate coverage and reporting of assigned news stories/events
- Present live or delayed reports as necessary
- Initiate coverage and research, plan and prepare scripts suitable for the station’s policy
- Follow leads derived from credible sources and develop these leads into items for newscasts and special reports
- Visit news locations and sports scenes to verify, research, gather, and record news-worthy information
- Research thoroughly, verify, edit, and rewrite news-worthy stories from various sources
- Provide on-the-spot, live reports of events as required
- Assist with the editing and preparing audio/visual material to enhance newscasts
- Keep abreast of current items of news locally and internationally
- Assist with the coverage of national events and disasters
- Provide at least two initiative reports per week
- Perform any other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Tertiary certification in Mass Communications or Physical Education with Journalism
- At least 3 years professional writing experience
- Proficiency in the use Microsoft Word
- Strong command of the English Language
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (including interviewing skills)
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- At least two years' experience in the newsroom of a Radio or Television station or a newspaper.
- Experience and expertise in identifying, researching and covering newsworthy stories, on a broad range of subjects.
- Ability to write and present clearly and accurately items of news
- Knowledge and experience in editing.
- Technical competences in the use of broadcasting equipment, including a tape recorder.
