About the role
- Software Engineer developing and maintaining software for Quantum Key Distribution systems at zerothird, a leader in quantum cryptography based in Vienna.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust software for our advanced QKD systems, ensuring high performance and reliability.
- Build secure software and software infrastructure (such as image registries, security scanners, PKI, etc.), and harden Linux systems and network configurations.
- Collaborate with colleagues to create software that is not only secure but also highly efficient and capable of operating under stringent conditions.
- Improve development methodologies by supporting and enhancing software development processes, testing, and DevOps practices.
Requirements
- Proven experience designing, developing, and maintaining complex software systems with a strong focus on security and reliability.
- Proficiency in systems programming languages such as C, C++, or Rust, with a strong preference for Rust experience.
- Expertise in building secure software and implementing secure software lifecycles is highly valued—this may include experience with code signing, certificates, authentication, secure communications, and other secure software mechanisms.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly regarded: security-sensitive systems and cryptography; fail-safe systems and certified software; distributed and high-availability systems.
- Solid understanding of GIT, GitLab, and CI/CD pipelines; Kubernetes experience is a plus.
- Excellent command of English and/or German, both written and spoken, to ensure effective communication within a diverse team.
