About the role
- Head of Finance overseeing financial operations at an educational institution. Responsibilities include financial reporting, process improvement, and collaboration across departments.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports, statements, and forecasts.
- Develop and maintain financial reporting frameworks and systems.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies.
- Take ownership of the group reporting requirements within a JSE listed environment.
- Take the lead in managing internal and external audit requirements.
- Lead and manage the Accounts Receivable Team.
- Identify areas for improvement in financial processes and systems.
- Streamline and optimise financial workflows to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Implement best practices and standardised procedures across the finance department.
- Drive process automation initiatives to eliminate manual tasks and enhance productivity.
- Assist with the FP&A function, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
- Collaborate with department heads to develop annual budgets and long-term financial plans.
- Monitor and analyse actual financial performance against budgets and forecasts.
- Identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop meaningful financial metrics to track business performance.
- Provide insights and recommendations based on financial analysis.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration between the finance department and other functional areas.
- Partner with department heads to understand their financial needs and provide guidance.
- Support cross-functional initiatives and contribute financial expertise to drive successful outcomes.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior management, providing financial insights and recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations. Monitor changes in tax laws and assess their impact on the organisation. Manage tax-related audits and inquiries.
Requirements
- Qualified CA(SA) with 3+ years’ experience in a finance leadership role, preferably within the education or related industry.
- Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the Income Tax Act.
- Extensive experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- In-depth understanding of tax compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to streamline processes, implement automation solutions, and improve operational efficiency.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and influence stakeholders.
- Exceptional leadership qualities, with the ability to mentor and develop a high-performing finance team.
