Legal Assistant supporting the Plaintiff Personal Injury practice group in Toronto. Requires 3+ years experience and involves administrative duties for a busy legal team.
Responsibilities
Answering the phone, scheduling calls, meetings and appointments
Opening and closing files, conducting conflict searches
Communicating with clients, experts, service providers and the courts
Maintaining lawyers’ calendars and an effective bring forward (BF) system
Preparation of accounts, deposit of cheques/cash receipts, payment of invoices
Preparing and sending invoices and communicating with clients about billing-related matters
Organizing and submitting expense reports
Drafting, sending, and replying to correspondence to both lawyers and clients
Compiling, serving, and filing motion records and other court documents
Setting up teleconferences, mediations, case conferences, and settlement conferences
Communicating with prospective clients as a first point of contact
Detailed electronic file organization
File maintenance and organization including scanning and uploading into Primafact and/or the DMS (Document Management System)
Other duties related to the administration of the practice
Requirements
3+ years of experience as a Legal Assistant, preferably in a litigation role
Experience in Plaintiff Personal Injury is an asset
Knowledge of Primafact is an asset
Deep familiarity with the Rules of Civil Procedure, particularly as it pertains to service rules and deadlines
Keen attention to detail
Strong organizational and time management skills
A strong work ethic
Self-motivation, particularly as it relates to anticipating needs and actioning next steps
The ability to work effectively on a team and individually
Excellent communication skills with the ability to receive feedback
Experience with technology and working in a hybrid environment
Experience with Primafact, ACL, Case Center, Justice Services Online (JSO) portal, RelativityOne, iManage and/or OneDrive is an asset
