About the role
- Staff Engineer responsible for building and maintaining data infrastructure for Gusto Retirement. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to drive data solutions and improve infrastructure operations.
Responsibilities
- Build and refine our infrastructure and tools that enable other teams to work with data
- Take full ownership of the solutions you build, partner with other teams, work with stakeholders to refine ideas, shape scope, implement solutions, monitor production, and troubleshoot problems that arise
- Collaborate with other engineering teams to integrate with existing systems and unblock dependencies
- Participate in an on call rotation to support the deployment of supported platform services and the management of the underlying infrastructure
- Identify, adopt and improve frameworks, policies and tools to streamline the development process
Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience in a similar role
- Hands-on experience building data infrastructure at scale
- Strong programming skills in Python and proficiency in SQL for data extraction and manipulation
- Experience building solutions in the cloud (GCP/AWS/Snowflake)
- Experience with streaming systems (Kafka or similar)
- Ability to turn vague requirements into clear deliverables with minimal guidance
- Curiosity and ability to operate in an AI-native environment, leveraging AI tooling to enhance infrastructure operations
