About the role
- Senior Mechanical Engineer leading design, analysis, and delivery of mechanical systems for infrastructure projects. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior engineers at EXP.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical system design for projects, including: HVAC systems, Piping and fluid systems, Industrial machinery and equipment
- Perform and approve complex engineering calculations, including: Heating and cooling loads, Fluid dynamics and pressure losses, Thermodynamics and energy analysis
- Ensure designs comply with ASME, CSA, NFPA, and applicable local building and mechanical codes
- Prepare and review technical documentation, including: Specifications, Design briefs and reports, Risk assessments, Sequences of operation
- Develop scope of work and basis of design, maintaining accuracy through all project phases
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (MEP/FP, Architectural, Civil, Structural)
- Manage vendor and supplier interactions, reviewing technical submissions and equipment selections
- Review, approve, and stamp drawings and specifications; perform QA/QC reviews
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior engineers and technologists
- Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverables using sound risk management practices
- Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and troubleshoot issues during design and construction
- Oversee installation, commissioning, and field investigations, providing on-site technical guidance
- Apply advanced mechanical engineering concepts, including: Psychrometrics, Hydronic and air-side system design, Energy efficiency and performance principles
- Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders to define requirements and meet project milestones
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory)
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible for licensure within a short timeframe
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical engineering design for industrial and/or municipal infrastructure projects
- Strong proficiency with mechanical design software, including: AutoCAD (mandatory), Revit, SolidWorks, and simulation / FEA tools (assets)
- MS Office (Word, Excel) and MS Project for project management
- Experience in preliminary and detailed design for heavy industrial and municipal systems
- In-depth knowledge of engineering codes and standards: ASME, CSA, NFPA, Local building and mechanical codes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform advanced engineering calculations
- Proven leadership and mentoring ability, including multidisciplinary coordination
- Experience managing project scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverables
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced consulting environment
