- Systems Engineer in transportation solutions helping simplify daily journeys while ensuring system integration and stakeholder collaboration. Focus on developing and managing system requirements, architecture, and testing processes.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and execute systems engineering activities including requirements decomposition, system design, and integration
- Perform complex analyses and trade studies for system concept selection
- Create and control systems engineering artifacts like RVTM, ICD, architecture diagrams, and test plans
- Devise innovative solutions for complex problems via in-depth analysis
- Direct hardware/software integration and system-level testing
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to communicate technical concepts
- Prepare technical documentation and ensure compliance with project requirements
- Conduct risk management and provide solutions to technical challenges
- Mentor junior engineers and support their professional development
- Build relationships with stakeholders to meet project objectives
- Work on-site in Minneapolis with travel to San Diego up to 25% during key activities
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree with 3 years of experience; or PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience
- Extensive knowledge of systems engineering processes, including requirements analysis, system design, integration, and testing
- Proven ability to solve complex problems using sophisticated analytical techniques
- Experience with hardware/software integration, system verification, and compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO, IEEE)
- Experience with software engineering projects including Java, C++, or C#, integrating device communications with back-end systems through direct communications and APIs
- Experience in test automation (e.g., JUnit/TestNG, Selenium, TestComplete, Jenkins, TestRail)
- Programming languages such as Java or Python
- Knowledge of XML, SQL, and API testing (SOAP, REST)
- Excellent communication skills for technical presentations to diverse audiences
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong interpersonal skills for relationship management with senior stakeholders
- Experience using model-based design methods (SysML or UML)
- Familiarity with Agile or Lean development methodologies
- Experience with Automated Fare Collection (AFC) and/or Transportation Systems preferred
- Proficiency in tools such as DOORS, JIRA, or other systems engineering platforms.
