About the role
- Senior Backend / Platform Engineer designing core APIs and orchestration layer for Autodesk’s AI-assisted commerce platform. Collaborating across teams for AI-driven commerce solutions with enterprise-grade reliability.
Responsibilities
- Design and build the core APIs and orchestration layer (MCP) that connect AI systems to Autodesk’s existing commerce infrastructure.
- Build AI-Ready Commerce APIs
- Ensure APIs are deterministic, explainable, and versioned for AI consumption
- Build orchestration workflows that allow AI agents to perform multi-step commerce actions safely.
- Implement guardrails for Pricing and contract rules, Enterprise and channel policies, Approval flows and rollback handling.
- Provide observability, audit logs, and traceability for AI-driven actions.
- Partner with AI/ML engineers to integrate LLM-based agents via tools, APIs, and function calling.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience building backend or platform services
- Strong proficiency in Java, Node Js, or similar backend languages (or equivalent)
- Experience with distributed systems, APIs, and service orchestration
- Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures (AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD)
- Hands-on experience integrating backend systems with: LLMs, AI agents, or ML-driven services
- Understanding of AI system characteristics: Non-determinism, Latency tradeoffs, Safety and guardrails
- Experience with: Authorization, security, and data protection
- Auditability and compliance requirements
- High-availability and fault-tolerant systems
- Experience with commerce systems (pricing, subscriptions, billing, payments)
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures and async workflows
- Experience building shared platforms used by multiple teams
