Responsibilities
Select and manage outside counsel to assist with corporate litigation in class actions, employment, life and agent matters
Review and edit briefs and motions prepared by outside counsel
Participate in and supervise exposure analysis and setting reserves
Participate in mediations and settlement conferences
Provide legal advice and participate in development of corporate and enterprise strategies
Manage case budgets and reviews outside counsel billing
Analyze legal questions, conduct legal research, and advise all corporation divisions and levels of management
Review and advise the corporation on proposed and current legislation and litigation trends
Review and advise the corporation on policy forms
Be a resource on high impact, bad faith and operational litigated claim files
Be the corporate litigation representative on the Regional Strategy Teams in reviewing summary judgment motions and appeals
Review and edit briefs and motions
Supervise / manage the Corporate Discovery team
Supervise / manage the Agency E&O and EPL team on their matters
Update senior leadership on Corporate Litigation cases and general litigation trends
Requirements
Demonstrated effective leadership skills
Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service
Demonstrated civil trial experience
Demonstrated experience dealing with issues related to (i) tort law, (ii) litigation practice, and (iii) property and casualty insurance contracts, law and regulation
Extensive knowledge and understanding of rules of Professional Responsibility for the jurisdiction in which they practice
Extensive knowledge and understanding of tort, contract, and insurance law
